new shirts and products - tooth print

The tooth idea was born in my sketchbook.

The tooth idea was born in my sketchbook.

Teeth have a little creepy to me, but also…cool? I have kind of a contradictory feeling about them, because I have a lot of anxiety around my own teeth. I have a pretty severe fear of the dentist, and while I’m a very good teeth brusher, the feeling of flossing makes me feel sick. I do it as often as I can stomach it, which isn’t often enough. I have a recurring dream that I clench my jaw so tight that my teeth shatter.

I took a photo of my sketchbook with my iPad so I could trace the image in Procreate, then I looked at some images from textbooks to get some varied teeth in the pattern.

Once I have a bit of extra cash I’m definitely picking this shirt up for myself. Tap the images to see the products on RedBubble!

But I also think teeth are really cool looking and weird when they’re out-of-context illustration elements. This design was born from that contradicting feeling.

Whenever I’m designing a pattern, I usually consider how it will look on a tote bag before anything other products, unless I’m creating a very specific design that I want for myself. In the case of the teeth, I definitely wanted it on a t-shirt before any other products, but it worked out well for the tote as well.

Looking at teeth for reference was a little creepy, especially looking at what appeared to be medical diagrams or illustrations from textbooks. I made myself a little uncomfortable in the name of art and I’m very pleased with the results, even if it does make me woozy to look at it.

I love RedBubble scarves, and this design looks really cool blown up on one!

I've always loved the anaglyph 3D look, and I feel like the way it messes with your eyes and gives a sense of discomfort simulates how I feel when I'm having the shattered tooth dream or when I’m waiting to see the dentist. Or hell, even when I’m just making the appointment to see the dentist.

This design started as two random tooth doodles in my sketchbook when I was trying to come up with witchy illustration elements. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them at first, but I’m happy where it ended up. Teeth make great elements for a grid design like this.

The products pictured, along with others are available on my RedBubble shop! Personally I can’t wait to save up some extra cash and get myself one of the t-shirts. If you pick something up for yourself please share and tag me in it! I’d love to see what you picked out.
