 This piece was made digitally, but I really wanted to mimic traditional tools with my brush choices.

 I made this when I started practicing hand lettering. I wanted a simple pattern in the background with thin lines to let the lettering shine.

 I did this to contribute to a collaboration I did with a digital portrait artist. She did a portrait of Frida Kahlo, and I made the background of the portrait. The marigold is regarded as a symbol of death in Mexico, and Kahlo featured them often in her work. The blue is the same blue of her house in Mexico that I sampled from a photo, and the other motifs add a touch of surrealism to it which she is known for.
